Bonsai - Tree Style Tab Manager & Sessions ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles your data.

Data Collection

The Extension prioritizes local processing and minimal data collection. We only process information necessary for the Extension to function and to manage premium licenses.

What Data is Processed Locally

The Extension processes the following data locally on your device only:

• Tab titles, URLs, and favicons
• Tab relationships (parent-child hierarchy)
• Tab state (active, pinned, etc.)
• Saved sessions and tab snapshots
• User settings and preferences
• Information about closed tabs (timestamps, expiration times)

How Data is Stored

All data is stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API:

• Data never leaves your computer
• Data is not synchronized across devices
• Data is deleted when you uninstall the extension

Permissions

The Extension requests the following permissions to function:

• tabs: Read tab information (title, URL, favicon) to display and manage them in the tree.
• storage & unlimitedStorage: Store tab tree structure, saved sessions, and your settings locally on your device.
• scripting & host permissions (<all_urls>): Inject the floating Bonsai panel over the pages you visit so you can access your tabs anywhere.
• alarms: Manage background tasks, such as periodic session backups.
• system.display: Ensure the floating panel is positioned correctly on your specific screen setup.
• history (Optional): Used exclusively for "Houdini Mode" to selectively remove specific browsing traces, and only requested if you enable this feature.

Content Scripts & Page Access

The Extension injects content scripts on all pages to display the floating panel and detect navigation events. Content scripts do NOT read your page content, track your browsing habits, or collect personal information.

Data Sharing

The Extension does not sell your data or share it with advertisers. Data is only shared with external services for the following purposes:

• Licensing (Bonsai Pro only): If you purchase a premium license, your license key and activation details are transmitted to our payment provider (Polar) to validate your subscription.
• Optional Feedback: Upon uninstallation, you may be directed to a voluntary feedback form on our website. Submitted responses are stored on our servers to improve the product.
• No analytics or tracking
• No ads or monetization

Data Security

• Your browsing history, tab structure, and settings are stored securely and locally on your device
• Your local browsing data is never transmitted over the internet
• No cloud storage or remote backups of your tabs

Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

• Access: You can view all stored data through the Extension
• Delete: Uninstall the Extension to delete all data
• Control: You have full control over your data at all times

How to Delete Your Data

1. Click the "Clear Tree Structure" button in the floating panel to clear the current tab tree
2. Click the "Clear Virtual Tabs" button to remove saved tabs and sessions
3. Uninstall the Extension to delete all stored data permanently from your device

Third-Party Services

The Extension uses Polar (polar.sh) exclusively for managing Bonsai Pro licenses. It does NOT use analytics, crash reporting, advertising networks, or social media integration.

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 years of age.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date and notifying through Chrome Web Store listing updates.
